Share: "Aunt Rhody" - The Hollow Trees

nelson_thumb.jpgIt's been awhile since we've heard from Los Angeles' finest cartoon-based purveyors of kid-friendly folk and Americana The Hollow Trees, but word comes from Gregory Hollow Tree (AKA Gregory McIlvaine) that they've got a new album -- Wacky's Tackle -- coming out soon. And a free outtake from the album, "Aunt Rhody" for the free downloading. In the spirit of the season, it's slightly spooky, but tame enough for the most fraidy of cats. Download (or stream) it here, but only until the stroke of midnight on Hollow-er-, Halloween. (OK, I can't claim credit for that pun.)

Video: "Robot" - The Baby Grands

Turns out their teaser video was slightly apropos. The Baby Grands, whose new album The Baby Grands II comes out Nov. 16th (even your preschooler could probably guess how many albums they've released, have produced their first video for the album. It's for the song "Robot" and features a boogie-ing robot. No surprise they prefer Android operating systems... The Baby Grands - "Robot" [YouTube]

Keller Williams Takes the Airwaves

Kids.jpgAs previously noted and long anticipated, Keller Williams' first album for families, Kids, gets its release October 26, but it's gonna get a big push out the door at the very beginning of the month, with seven of the album's tracks getting world premieres all across the kid-ternets. Including this corner. I'll be offering "Hula Hoop to Da Loop" for your streaming pleasure. As you might suspect from the name, those of you who dig Williams' ability with the looping technology will dig it bunches. And I think the rest of you will, too. Thursday, Sept. 30: “Keep It on the Paper” Gooney Bird Kids (GBK Radio) Friday, Oct. 1: “My Neighbor is Happy Again” – Sirius/XM’s The Absolutely Mindy Show Friday, Oct. 1: “Hula Hoop to Da Loop” – Zooglobble Friday, Oct. 1: “Grandma’s Feather Bed” Pied Piper Radio Saturday, Oct. 2: “Mama Tooted” – Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child (part of a guest DJ set) Saturday, Oct. 2: “Because I Said So” - Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl Saturday, Oct. 2: “Lucy Lawcy” Ages 3 & Up!

Video: "The Little Blue Doggy" - Michelle Campagne

For those of you who think family music's become edgier over time, the following kids' song, written a half-century ago by Canadian songwriter Lionel Daunais features: 1) a locked-up kid-dog, 2) humans in cages, 3) dustmites who eat the title character, and, perhaps worst of all, 4) pipe smoking. In spite of all this, The Secret Mountain has put together The Little Blue Doggy, a book lovingly illustrated by Marie Lafrance including a CD with songs by Daunais performed by Canadian musician Michelle Campagne and her family. You can get an idea of what you're in for by watching the video below. (Warning: includes pipe smoking.) The Little Blue Doggy is out in October.
