Video: "Mister Cloud" - Caspar Babypants

Away We Go album cover

To go into my appreciation for Chris Ballew's Caspar Babypants project would take far more time than I have at the moment (not to mention a ruthless editor prepared to cut my ramblings to an acceptable length.

And I feel like that would go against the spirit of CB's music for kids, which is simple, stylish, and incredibly catchy.  It's not that he dashes off the music -- or his videos -- there is attention and craft in his output.  But there's definitely not a feeling of overthinking things, and as he's been cranking out more than one album a year for several years now, he doesn't have time to overthink things.

The latest Caspar Babypants album Away We Go! was released last week, and the first single from the album is "Mister Cloud."  Like many of his videos, the video for "Mister Cloud" has a very simple concept -- it's a hand-drawn cloud looking very cute -- neatly executed.  I like it a bunch.

Video: "Take a Bath" - Eric Herman and the Thunder Puppies (World Premiere!)

Bubble Wrap album cover

Today marks the official release date for Bubble Wrap, the brand new album from Eric Herman (and his band the Thunder Puppies).  Longtime kids music listeners will not be surprised to find out that the new album contains a mix of the silly and heartfelt, and while perhaps the Washington-based Herman has strong feelings on the issue of cleanliness, the song "Take a Bath" definitely fits on the silly end of that spectrum.

The reggae-inflected song is amusing by itself, but the cartoon visuals are particularly effective, and I suspect will amuse the youngsters.  (Hey, it amused me, so that age range might be kinda broad.)

Anyway, enjoy this world premiere video!

Today is the release day for Red Yarn's new album, his third, titled Wake Up & Sing.  I can think of no better way to celebrate new music from the Portland musician and puppet impresario than to feature the first video from the album.  It's for the leadoff track, "Beautiful Day," and it features a whole host of puppet friends.  Don't let the horse drive the bus! (Or car.)  A beautiful day, indeed.

I'm not one normally to post videos featuring user-submitted photos and videos because I don't tend to find them particularly compelling.

But this new one from The Que Pastas features lead singer/guitarist's Gene Davis' own photos and videos from, like, just about his entire life.  It gives his song, or rather, "Helen's Song," already lovely in audio form, that much more "oomph."  This one's probably more for the dads (and moms) in the audience than their kids, but the older kids looking for a soundtrack for a Father's (or Mother's) Day video could do much, much worse.  The song's from the brand new album from the Texas band, Meet You By the Moon.

Radio Playlist: New Music March 2016

As compared to February's playlist, this month's new music playlist is definitely full.  (If you want to catch my list from February -- briefer but just as high quality -- you can see that playlist here.)

As always, it's limited in that if an artist hasn't chosen to post a song on Spotify, I can't put it on the list, nor can I feature songs from as-yet-unreleased albums.  But I'm always keeping stuff in reserve for the next Spotify playlist.

Check out the list here.
