Video: "Paletero Man" - Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band

Made in L.A. album cover

There's nothing not to like about the first single from the brand-new Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band album Made in L.A.  "Paletero Man" is every bit as refreshing as the ice cream popsicles the paletero man sells to "todo los chiquillos."

The song's now got a snappy new lyric video featuring art from longtime Diaz collaborator Micah Player, one more reason for the song to lodge in your brain.

By the way, I know the album is called Made in L.A., but if you happen to find yourself in the Phoenix area, I definitely recommend Paletas Betty for all your paletas needs.

Anyway, enjoy!

Video: "Ice Cream (Healthy Eating)" - Danny Weinkauf

It's yet another video from Danny Weinkauf -- instead of the power-pop of "No School Today," it's a tender plea for logic and understanding in placing ice cream in its proper place in dining -- that is, part of every meal.  Two of four food groups is good enough for me, too.  "Ice Cream (Healthy Eating)," whose video is directed by David Cowles and Jeremy Galante, can be found on No School Today, Weinkauf's debut solo kids music record, out last week.

Monday Morning Smile: "1000 Cones"

I'm featuring this video this morning because the idea that a bunch of people on the internet would pool their money together just to buy a thousand strangers in Denver ice cream cones amused me.  (Amused me enough that I threw in a few ducats for the Kickstarter campaign for the project.)

So, yeah, it's pretty much Jordan Morris and Jesse Thorn from the Jordan, Jesse, Go! show just being silly as they help distribute a thousand ice cream cones.  But it's still fun.

Plus: ice cream.  No feature about ice cream can ever be bad.

Note: I'm not a comedy podcast person, so I can't say that I'm a Jordan, Jesse, Go! listener (yet), but I am a big fan of Thorn's Bullseye show, which I recommend tracking down via podcast if it's not on your local public radio station.

Monday Morning Smile: "The Birthday Card"

This video comes from brothers Ryan Mayers and Matt Mayers.  Matt Mayers is the husband of Stephanie Mayers, the swell gal who helps keep the Festival Five and Kindiefest trains running on time.  This features a cute kid (Matt's and Stephanie's daughter), a feel-good message, and, most importantly, a very important dessert.  Very. Important.

Video: "Ice Cream Man" - Randy Kaplan

I'm sorry, Mr. Randy Kaplan -- despite your claim in your song "Ice Cream Man," from your new album Mr. Diddie Wah Diddie, I am the official ice cream king.

Even if you do have a cape.  And a crown.  And, er, an ice cream truck.

OK, I concede my title to you, sir.  Where's my ice cream?
